Recipients must be enrolled full-time and attending the main Cleveland campus with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Students receiving full-tuition discounts are not eligible for Endowed Scholarships.

The Lee University Student Aid Committee is wholly responsible for the selection of the Endowment Scholarship recipients. In this selection, the Committee considers academic and leadership qualities, but gives major consideration to financial need. Students may receive only one Endowed Scholarship per academic year. The University will discontinue scholarships any time a recipient withdraws from Lee University or fails to meet requirements regarding academic progress or chapel probation. Students wishing to report unique or specific associations can provide information here.

Getting started can be the toughest part, but these steps should make the process a little easier. Remember that three applications are used for your financial aid award decision: FAFSA, LeeU Admissions Application, and LeeU Scholarship Profile.

  1. FAFSA

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online beginning October 1. December 1 is the deadline for early action.

Note to Applicants for Fall 2024: Due to the delay of the new FAFSA, the Early Action deadline for Fall 2024 enrollment is Feb. 14. Early Action candidates will receive a decision on their financial aid award by March 1, 2024.

Steps 1 and 2 can be completed simultaneously. Please proceed to Step 2.

  2. Apply to Lee

Admission to Lee University is based on the completion of an official application and evidence that you possess the qualities needed for satisfactory achievement in terms of character, ability, academic foundation, purpose, and personality. The university admits students regardless of race, color, national origin, religious preference, or disability. To be eligible for admission, you must have received a diploma from an approved high school or a passing score on a GED test. Acceptance is based upon discernible qualities and potential without reference to any perceived notion of an ideal class.

If you are a returning student and you haven’t withdrawn, there is no need to apply for admissions again. Move on to Step 3.

    Apply Here

  3. Scholarship Profile

There are numerous scholarships available at Lee University. The type of funding you receive is determined by a variety of factors that may include your financial aid eligibility, income level, student status, and/or grade point average.

Other factors that may identify you as a candidate for various programs are submitted on your LeeU Scholarship Profile. Click here to sign in to Lee’s Application Portal and click “Start New” to submit your Scholarship Profile. Returning students will use Portico instead of the Application Portal to submit information for their Scholarship Profile.

Click here to see our Endowment Scholarships page, on which various endowed scholarships are categorized by academic discipline and other factors.

  4. Financial Aid Status

If you are a returning student, be sure to check your email for any missing documents that may be needed. New students will be contacted via mail if any documents are needed for file completion.

  5. Review Award Letter

Review your award letter. Students who receive an award letter before May will be asked to notify us of your acceptance of the university’s aid package by May 1. This will allow aid which has been offered but not accepted by the student to be reallocated to another applicant.

  6. Financial Aid Counseling

Financial aid counselors are available to help with any questions you may have during this process. Please feel free to contact us by phone at 423-614-8300 or email at [email protected].

Complete the Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note (MPN) online if borrowing federal loans.

  7. Private Scholarships

Apply for private scholarships from your high school, employer (and parents’ employer), church, community, organizations with which you are involved, and online. Please use our scholarship & aid programs page as a resource.

Lee University is committed to providing the resources needed to finance your educational goals and provides a number of institutional scholarship and grant opportunities for new and returning students. Institutional aid decisions result from a careful review of the Application for Undergraduate Admissions, including official test scores and transcripts, as well as information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In addition, Lee offers many endowment and other scholarship opportunities that are funded by generous foundations and donors that target specific student characteristics and achievements. The Lee University Scholarship Profile enables the university to match students to available aid opportunities not already identifiable based on Admissions application and FAFSA submissions.

Our process for matching you with the resources you need is a comprehensive look at each of the above submissions. Once these submissions have been made, the university will provide an award letter, showing what grant and scholarship assistance will be awarded to you upon your enrollment.

Early Action

You have two options for applying to Lee University. All incoming students who complete their applications (FAFSA, Lee Admissions, and Scholarship Profile) prior to December 1 will be Early Action* candidates and will receive a response on a priority basis with a guarantee of receiving a decision by the holiday break. After December 1, all financial aid decisions will be made on a rolling basis. Apply today!

Below is a list of the major financial assistance programs available to students while attending Lee University.

Institutional Scholarships & Aid Programs

Other LeeU Commitments

The award package offered will reflect a combination of the awards above, federal and state grants, and other institutional commitments, which comprise a variety of need or merit-based aid, including endowment scholarships, athletic, music or other talent-based scholarships. If a student still has a remaining balance after Lee University’s institutional commitment has been made in the award letter, the student is encouraged to explore several other options to close the gap. Below is an exhaustive list of assistance programs and search tools that are utilized by students every year. Some programs listed are part of the initial award process, and in those cases the utilization of that program will be specified in the final award letter.

The following resource can help answer any questions you may have concerning financial aid. Each link below leads to a section with information that you may find helpful.

Federal Work Study

Federal Work Study is a need based program as determined by the results of a student’s FAFSA. Students commonly work 10 hours per week. The average pay is $7.75 per hour, and students are paid bi-weekly. Students can apply in the Student Employment Office or through Portico by selecting University Services, Student Employment Office.

Payment

Can my financial aid be used as a down payment at registration?

• Yes. Student Financial Services requires a down payment of fifty percent of the school bill to be paid at registration. Financial Aid can be used in place of or as part of the down payment; however, aid cannot be processed until the student’s file is complete with all required documentation.

Can textbooks be charged to student accounts?

• Book vouchers are handled through Student Financial Services. A book voucher may be issued when a student has enough financial aid (excluding work-study and loan fees) to completely pay his/her school account and still have a credit balance. For more information, see the Student Financial Services web site.

Loans

Are separate applications required for student and parent loans?

Yes. Both the Federal Direct Loan and Federal Direct PLUS Loans are processed through the Department of Education.  The FAFSA is the application for the Federal Direct Loan, but a separate loan application must be completed for the Federal Direct PLUS loan.  Also, each student receiving a loan must complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling.

What is the difference between Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan and Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan?

The government is responsible for the interest on the Subsidized Loan during periods of enrollment and grace periods. However, the borrower is responsible for the interest over the entire life of the Unsubsidized Loan.

When will loan applications turned in at registration be processed?

Because of the large number of applications turned in at registration, 30 to 60 days should be allowed for processing time. The time may vary depending on the volume of loans.

Other than the standard grade level Federal Direct Loan, what loans are available?

Possibly Unsubsidized Stafford LoanFederal Direct PLUS loan or an Alternative Loan. Independent students are eligible for an Unsubsidized additional loan (up to $4,000 for Freshmen and Sophomores and up to $5,000 for Juniors and Seniors). Dependent students are not eligible for this program unless their parents have been denied a Federal Direct PLUS Loan. The Financial Aid Office must receive electronic notification from the Department of Education that the parents have been denied. In which case, dependent students have the same eligibility as independent students. Federal Direct PLUS Loans are taken out by the parents to pay for their child’s school costs. Alternative Loans can also be taken out to cover the remaining education costs. Often a co-borrower is required for these loans. For more information, see the Financial Aid Programs offered on the Financial Aid web site.

When do I have to repay my loan?

Repayment begins six months after the student has ceased to be enrolled at least half time. If a student stays enrolled at least half time until graduation then repayment begins six months after graduation. The student will receive Direct Loan Exit Counseling material from Lee University and will receive repayment information from the Department of Education. See the Lee University catalog for more information on repayment. For more information, you can view this informational video-Repayment: What to Expect.

Where can I find scholarships?

• The first place you may want to check out is the scholarship search link on our website. Withdrawal Process

If I am withdrawing from all of my classes what should I do?

The first step is going to the HUB. The second step is to go to the Financial Aid Office. Students are required to complete a withdrawal form and complete Direct Loan Exit Counseling online (if you borrowed Federal Direct Loans while attending Lee).

Vocational Rehabilitation

How can a student get Vocational Rehabilitation money?

• The student should apply at the Vocational Rehabilitation office in the city or county where they are from. Each state has different guidelines to determine which students are eligible, what benefits that they are entitled to, and if these benefits (money) can be transferred out of state. See the Lee University catalog for more information.

How can I get in touch with the Cleveland-Bradley County office?

• Their phone number is 423-478-0332.

When will the funds come in?

• Each state differs, however most student’s money comes in near the end of each semester. Check your account on Portico to see if it has arrived.
