SON Hosts Skills Lab, Preview Day for DNP Students

Lee University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program recently hosted a skills lab for its students, which included a preview event for prospective DNP students.
“We were thrilled to welcome prospective students to our recent FNP Skills Lab Preview, where they experienced firsthand the hands-on training and clinical excellence that sets our program apart,” said Dr. Julie Campbell, director of graduate studies in nursing at Lee.
Te skills lab was a three-day on-campus learning immersion opportunity for DNP students in the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track. This lab gave students a chance to begin learning advanced nursing skills before starting their first practicum experience.
“Our in-person skills lab is a unique and essential component of our hybrid program, bridging online coursework with real-world clinical preparation,” said Campbell.
The two-hour preview event welcomed prospective students into a section of the skills lab where they learned and practiced alongside the DNP-FNP students. This included skills such as suturing, incision and drainage, and subungual hematoma evacuation.
The prospective students that attended the event were invited based on previous inquiries about the DNP-FNP program. This was the first in-person preview event the DNP program has hosted. They also host virtual information sessions for prospective students that are typically available weekly.
“Events like these give future nurse practitioners a true sense of the supportive learning environment we offer,” said Campbell.
The DNP Program offers a terminal degree that prepares graduates to practice at the highest level of nursing and lead change through translational research. Students benefit from Lee’s distinctive programming related to rural, global, and disaster healthcare, with the integration of a Christian worldview.
