Music Camp to Offer Five Tracks for Aspiring Musicians
Lee University’s Summer Music Camp will take place June 15-20 for students entering ninth grade through their freshman year of college and will offer five tracks: music lovers, college prep, worship, jazz, and piano.
Music Camp is designed to enhance students’ musical skills and knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to gain experience in piano, choir, chamber strings, band, or jazz combos alongside Lee University faculty and camp staff. Students will also study music theory and music history along with specialized areas of focus.
“We are so excited to host another fantastic year of music camp,” said Dr. Josh Pace, director of Lee University bands and the summer music camp. “I have not come across another Christ-centered music camp that offers the level of music education that we are able to provide to our high school campers. Our jazz track, in particular, has grown to be so popular that we have opened registration to current collegiate students interested in improving their jazz chops and improvisation skills. It’s going to be an excellent week of making music and memories.”
Each day begins with an all-camp chapel service, followed by a music theory or jazz theory class. The remainder of the day is spent in a track-appropriate combination of rehearsals, music history classes, seminar classes, classes on various aspects of worship, master classes, or aural skills classes. After dinner and free time, there is an evening concert and a social activity before ending the day with small group devotionals.
Evening concerts will spotlight piano, vocal, instrumental, and jazz music from Lee ensembles and faculty. Depending on the track chosen, students will present concerts on Friday night, Saturday morning, or both. Evening concerts, which will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, will take place at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
Lee jazz faculty will perform Tuesday night in the Dixon Center. On Wednesday evening, music faculty and staff will perform in Squires Recital Hall, and on Thursday, Opera Theater will also perform in Squires Recital Hall.
Residential and commuter options are available, and commuters may purchase an optional meal plan. The cost is $720 for residential campers and $480 for non-residential campers. Both prices require an additional registration fee. Registration for certain tracks will remain open until Friday, June 12.
