    Biblical Studies Minor

    A minor in Biblical Studies consists of 18 hours selected from 300 and 400 level BIBL classes.  Prerequisites to minor:  BIBL-101 or 111, BIBL-102 or 112, and THEO-230 or THEO-250. This minor will not be available to Biblical and Theological Studies majors.

    Theological Studies Minor

    A minor in Theological Studies consists of 18 hours selected from 300 and 400 level THEO classes.  Prerequisites to minor:  BIBL-101 or 111, BIBL-102 or 112, and THEO-230 or THEO-250. This minor will not be available to Biblical and Theological Studies majors.

    Biblical and Theological Studies Minor

    A minor in Biblical and Theological Studies consists of 18 hours selected from 300 and 400 level BIBL and THEO classes (a minimum of 6 courses required; at least two courses in each discipline are required).  Prerequisites to minor:  BIBL-101 or 111, BIBL-102 or 112, and THEO-230 or THEO-250. This minor will not be available to Biblical and Theological Studies majors.

    Biblical Languages Minor

    The minor in Biblical Languages offers students two possible tracks:  1) one that combines two years of NT Greek with one year of Biblical Hebrew; and 2) one that provides two years of Biblical Hebrew with one year of NT Greek.  Either option is acceptable to fulfill the requirements of this minor.

    Track One (18 hrs.):

    • GREK-211: Elementary NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • GREK-212: Elementary NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • GREK-311: Intermediate NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • GREK-312: Intermediate NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-301: Elementary Biblical Hebrew.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-302: Elementary Biblical Hebrew.  3 credit hrs.

    Track Two (18 hrs.):

    • GREK-211: Elementary NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • GREK-212: Elementary NT Greek.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-301: Elementary Biblical Hebrew.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-302: Elementary Biblical Hebrew.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-311: Intermediate Biblical Hebrew I.  3 credit hrs.
    • HEBR-312: Intermediate Biblical Hebrew II.  3 credit hrs.
    Philosophy Minor

    The Philosophy minor (18 hours) is designed to prepare students for graduate work in philosophy, theology (including seminary studies), political science, history and other disciplines that require a strong background in philosophy, including law. The Philosophy minor also provides an in-depth introduction to major thinkers and perennial issues in the history of Western thought and promotes the development of critical thinking skills.

    Minor Requirements

    The required courses in the minor are:

    PHIL 241 - Introduction to Philosophy Credit Hours: 3

    15 hours of additional electives in philosophy*

    * Any course with a PHIL prefix may be taken to satisfy this requirement. Up to 6 of the required 15 elective hours may be satisfied by any of the following courses in Political Philosophy: PLSC 370 (Political Philosophy), PLSC 371 (Ancient Political Philosophy), and PLSC 372 (Modern Political Philosophy).

    Philosophy and Theological Studies Minor

    The minor in Philosophy and Theological Studies minor consists of 18 hrs. of electives in the following courses:

    • 3 PHIL courses, one of which is PHIL 241
    • 3 THEO courses selected from 300 and 400 level THEO classes

    This minor will not be available to Biblical and Theological Studies majors.

    Religion Minor

    A minor in religion consists of 18 semester hours, according to the following distribution: BIBL-110, BIBL-111, THEO-230, THEO-231, and 6 additional hours of coursework from 300 or 400-level BIBL, THEO, RELG, or CHIS courses. This minor will not be available to Biblical and Theological Studies majors.

    Religious Studies Minor

    The required courses in the minor are:

    • RELG-332: Religion and Culture.  3 credit hrs.
    • PHIL-361: Philosophy of Religion.  3 credit hrs.
    • 12 hour s of electives selected from the following options:
      • RELG-444: Postmodernism and Christianity. 3 credit hrs.
      • RELG-333: The Ethics of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. 3 credit hrs.
      • RELG-450: Directed Study in Religion. 1-4 credit hrs.
      • RELG-483: Special Topics in Religion. 3 credit hrs.
      • PHIL-371: Philosophical Ethics. 3 credit hrs.
      • PHIL-351: Philosophy of Human Nature. 3 credit hrs.
      • THEO-474: Women and Theology. 3 credit hrs.
      • ISCP-352: Contemporary World Religions. 3 credit hrs.
      • ISCP-353: Eastern Religions and Philosophy. 3 credit hrs.
      • ANTH-331: The Arab World and Islam. 3 credit hrs.
      • PLSC-373: Theological Foundations of Politics. 3 credit hrs.

    *Any Theology major may be combined with the following minors (given the noted requirements/limitation(s)):

    • Biblical Languages
      • Intro to Biblical Greek (GREK-111), or Hebrew equivalent (should there ever be one), does not count towards minor
      • If combined with THSPS.BS, the degree does not become a BA
    • Philosophy
      • Requires at least 4 PHIL courses beyond the required philosophy courses in the major and a minimum of 120 hours
    • Religious Studies
      • Requires at least 4 RELG/PHIL/THEO courses beyond the required RELG/PHIL/THEO courses in the major and a minimum of 120 hours                                         (Passed April 2022)

    Christian Ministry Minor

    (A ministry major cannot “minor” in Christian Ministry.) Christian Ministries offers a minor consisting of nineteen (19) hours. Courses required for the minor include:

    • CHMN 151 – Calling and Ministry Credit Hours:1
    • CHMN 220 - Biblical Interpretation for Ministry Credit Hours:3
    • < /span>CHMN 310 – Spiritual Formation & Discipleship Credit Hours: 3
    • CHMN 320 - Introduction to Multicultural Ministry Credit Hours:3

    And any three of the following courses:

    • CHMN 210 - Personal Evangelism Credit Hours:3
    • YTHM/DISM 350 – Foundations of Family Ministry II Credit Hours: 3
    • CHMN 340 - Christian Leadership Credit Hours:3
    • BIBL 351 – Ezra-Nehemiah
    Discipleship Ministry Minor

    A minor in Discipleship Ministry consists of eighteen (18) hours. Courses required for the minor include:

    • CHED 241 - Educational Ministry of the Church Credit Hours:3
    • &nb sp;   YTHM/DISM 250 – Foundations of Family Ministry I Credit Hours: 3
    • DISM 301 - Introduction to Small Group Ministry Credit Hours:3
    • DISM 302 - Models of Small Group Ministry Credit Hours:3
    • CHMN 310 – Spiritual Formation & Discipleship Credit Hours: 3
    • One additional 3-hr DISM, ICSP, PASM or YTHM course, at the 300- level orabove.
    Intercultural Studies Minor

    A person who majors in Pastoral Ministry and minors in Intercultural Studies may elect to take a modern foreign language instead of a biblical language. Course requirements for the minor in Intercultural Studies are:

    • ICSP 250 – Introduction to Missions (3 hrs. Fall)
    • ICSP 260 – The Dynamics of Mission (3 hrs. Spring)
    • ICSP 340 – Transformational Development (3 hrs. Fall)
    • n>ICSP 371 – Global Migration and Missions (3 hrs. Spring)
    • ICSP 352 – Contemporary World Religions (3 hrs. Spring)
    • ICSP 430 – Principles, Practices, & Problems of Missions (3 hrs. Fall)

    Youth Minor

    A minor in Youth Ministry consists of 18 hours. Courses required for the minor include:

    • YTHM 250 – Foundations of Family Ministry I Credit Hours:3
    • YTHM 350 – Foundations of Family Ministry II Credit Hours: 3
    • YTHM 331 - Models of Youth Ministry Credit Hours:3
    • YTHM 332 - Strategies for Youth Ministry CreditHours: 3
    • CHMN 340 – Christian Leadership Credit Hours: 3
    • YTHM 433 - Contemporary Issues in Youth Ministry Credit Hours:3

    Note: Courses taken for a concentration in this minor must be separate and apart from other courses required in a major from the Christian Ministries department. This concentration is designed for individuals who will serve as youth pastors, youth leaders in a para-church ministry or as lay youth leaders.

    Ashley Soule Conroy Foundation Scholarship 

    Amount: $4000
    In order to qualify to apply for the Ashley Soulé Conroy Study Abroad Scholarship, applicant must be a U.S. citizen who is enrolled as an undergraduate in a U.S. 4- year college or university. Applicants must also have at least 30 hours of completed undergraduate credit by the time of the study abroad term’s start date and intend to study abroad in a program that is outside of the U.S. and be enrolling in a study abroad term (the days that you are actually enrolled in classes abroad) that is no shorter than 14 weeks. Summer applicants will not be considered unless their academic term abroad is longer than 14 weeks, in which case they should apply for the Spring semester scholarship. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at their current institution, verifiable on their transcript is required. For more information or to apply, please visit the scholarship provider’s website.

    Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

    Amount: $5000
    The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.     Boren Scholarships

    Amount: $20000
    Boren Scholarships, a prestigious initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.     Critical Language Scholarship

    Amount: Variable 
    Half the fun of going abroad is learning a language, and this grant from the U.S. Department of State is there to support aspiring linguists abroad. Even if you can only go abroad for a brief time, the CLS Program is perfect as it funds U.S. undergraduate and graduate students for “overseas language and cultural immersion programs,” specifically during the summer months. Check if your  language of interest is eligible and then apply to get that funding to dive deep into your studies abroad.

    David-Putter Scholarship Fund

    Amount: Max of $15000
    If you’re passionate about social justice and plan to continue your commitment to your community activism values while abroad, then the Davis-Putter Scholarship is a perfect opportunity to fund both your studies in the USA and abroad. Engaging in social change while abroad is an amazing way to immerse in the local community and go beyond being a tourist in your destination of choice. Look for programs that align with your social issue interests and then share your passion with the Davis-Putter Fund to gain the grant to make it happen!

    Diversity Abroad Achievement Scholarship

    Amount: $1000
    Each semester, AIFS offers up to 10 semester scholarships of USD 1000 to outstanding students from under-represented groups. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and/or participate in community service activities.

    Amount: $2500

    The Scott’s Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship
