Students from DHMM Partner with Samaritan’s Purse
Students from Lee University’s Disaster and Healthcare Mission Management (DHMM) program recently partnered with Samaritan’s Purse to bring relief to communities in need.
“We are always honored to be part of the meaningful work of Samaritan’s Purse.” said Jacob Fast, director of DHMM. “I am incredibly proud of our students, who worked tirelessly to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus to those affected by these disasters.”
The first group of students, led by Fast, helped in New Albany, Mississippi, with cleanup following Winter Storm Fern from Feb. 25-28, clearing tree limbs and other debris. Students who volunteered include Steven Aquila, Wyatt Brackett, Lily Brown, Alex McClellan and McKayla Thompson.
Luke Ballentine, Annie Beeler, Ben Christenson, Isabella Hammonds, Kolton Lane, Emmalee Rau, and Alissa Roberts made up the second group, also led by Fast. They traveled to Yancey County, North Carolina, from March 8-13, spending their spring break repairing homes and constructing decks for residents in the damaged community.
“I had the opportunity to go to North Carolina to rebuild homes with Samaritan’s Purse,” said Hammonds, a sophomore nursing major from Cleveland. “It was an incredible experience; I got to meet so many people, learn new skills, and grow in my faith.”
The DHMM program prepares professionals to be leaders in the field of disaster preparation and response and healthcare missions.
