Lee University Wind Ensemble, Spring 2025

Lee University’s Wind Ensemble will present its winter concert on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus.

The concert will feature a variety of pieces, including “Declaration Overture” by Claude T. Smith, “Divertimento for Band” by Vincent Persichetti, “When Jesus Wept” and “Chester” by William Schuman, and “Fugue a la Gigue” by Johann Sebastian Bach.

“The concert band is a young performance medium compared to its older sibling ensembles,” said Dr. Josh Pace, director of Wind Ensemble. “Because of this, much of our early repertoire came from other mediums like orchestral or organ music. Our performance highlights four pieces of this nature, plus a few gems written specifically for the concert band.”

In addition to serving as assistant professor of music education and conductor of Lee’s Wind Ensemble, Pace teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, conducting, and supervises student teachers. Prior to Lee, Pace was a high school band and orchestra director in Omaha, Nebraska. He earned his doctorate in wind band conducting at the University of Florida.

The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion and performs special concerts on Lee’s campus throughout the year.

The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at leeu.live.

“We hope everyone will join us as the Wind Ensemble displays versatility and power through a diverse program,” said Pace.

The Conn Center is located at the center of the Lee University campus, on the corner of 11th Street and Paul Conn Parkway.
