On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Lee University Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. David Holsinger, will present “Tributes and Memorials” for its first concert of the semester. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus.  

This will mark the next to last appearance of the Lee University Wind Ensemble under the leadership of David and Winona Holsinger since founding the ensemble in the fall of 1999. 

“It has been a wonderful 24 years with great musicians, remarkable colleagues, and wonderful community support,” said Holsinger, professor of music and Lee Wind Ensemble conductor. “Winona and I hope that the legacy we leave behind only gets better and better as the years go on.” 

The penultimate program will primarily consist of compositions by eminent composers written to honor notable personalities familiar to the composer or by commission. Composers featured during the evening include Holsinger, Astor Piazzolla, circus march impresario Karl King, Bruce Yurko, David Maslanka, and the American march king John Philip Sousa.  

David Holsinger received his Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Kansas, an honorary doctorate from the Gustavus Adolphus College, his Master of Arts from Central Missouri State University, and his Bachelor of Music Education from Central Methodist College. 

The final Wind Ensemble concert under the leadership of the Holsingers will take place Friday, April 14, and will feature an entire program of original pieces by David Holsinger. 

“Tributes and Memorials” is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. It will also be available via livestream at leeu.live.
