Wind Ensemble to Perform Thursday
The Lee University Wind Ensemble will perform on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center. Joining Conductor David Holsinger on stage that evening will be Associate Conductor Winona Holsinger and Graduate Conductor Sarah Pearson.
Compositions will include “Slava!” by Leonard Bernstein, “Danzón No. 2” by Arturo Márquez, “Ye Banks and Braes” and “Handel in the Strand” by Percy Grainger.
An unfamiliar name to the audience will be Norwegian-born composer Ola Gjeilo. The Wind Ensemble will perform a section entitled “The Spheres” from Gjeilo’s Mass for Strings and Chorus “Sunrise.”
Marches by John Philip Sousa, “The Thunderer” and “Liberty Bell March,” will also be included in the program. The concert will conclude with Holsinger’s original “Scootin’ on Hardrock.”
