News

The Lee University Wind Ensemble will perform its first concert of the semester on Wednesday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

Dr. David Holsinger, conductor, will be joined by Associate Conductor Winona Gray Holsinger. Also joining them will be graduate conductors Daven Haskett, Seok Joon Keun, and Timothy Linley.

The evening will include music spanning several centuries from Baroque to Modern. Featured composers and their works include J.S. Bach’s “Fugue ala Gigue,” Aaron Copland’s “Variations on a Shaker Melody,” and Dr. Holsinger’s tribute to a compositional mentor “Homage: Three Tapestries.” A funeral march written by Fauré in 1921 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Napoleon will also be featured.

Other composers represented include Vaclav Nehlybel, Henry Fillmore, and Sir Malcom Arnold, among others.

The Lee Wind Ensemble is composed of 53 student musicians. Under the direction of Dr. David Holsinger, the group is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion, and performs for special concerts on the Lee University campus.

The concert is a free, non-ticketed event, and is open to the public.
