Wind Ensemble in Concert Tuesday
Lee University’s Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the semester on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.
The performance will feature music from 11 composers under the baton of conductor David Holsinger, in addition to guest appearances by three graduate school conductors and associate conductor Winona Holsinger.
Music for the evening will span nearly 100 years from the 1918 Sousa march, “Bullets and Bayonets” to the 2014 prepublication performance of Michael Markowski’s “JoyRIDE.”
According to David Holsinger, band music buffs in the audience will appreciate hearing Clifton Williams’ last work, “Caccia and Chorale,” Donald White’s 1958 “Miniature Set for Band,” named the most outstanding contribution to band literature by college band directors that year, and the Vaclav Nehlybel “Chorale,” his first publication for band in 1965.
Compositions by Eric Whitacre, Serge Prokofieff, Jack Stamp, Benjamin Brooks, and Sir Arthur Sullivan will round out the evening. The final number on the concert will be David Holsinger’s “Gears Pulleys Chains,” a tribute to the machine age, composed in 2005 to celebrate the transportation and mechanical history of Shelby, Ohio.
