Wind Ensemble to Perform in Conn Center Tuesday

Events, Music, News

Lee University’s Wind Ensemble will present a concert on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center on Lee’s campus. The concert will be directed by Dr. David Holsinger, professor of music at Lee and conductor of the ensemble.

The performance will present a diverse collection of composers, from Bach to Sousa, along with a number of delightful musical stops in between. Included are well-known wind band staples such as Hanssen’s Norwegian march “Valdres,” Frank Erickson’s beautiful “Aria Cantabile,” and Donald White’s contemporary “Miniature Set for Band.”

The concert will close with “Hero Music,” Holsinger’s piece dedicated to the late James “Pete” Evans, a long-time band director, later school superintendent, and Tennessee Music Education Association president.

The Lee University Wind Ensemble is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion. It is a non-travelling ensemble that performs for special concerts on the Lee campus throughout the year.

“Eighteen four-year veteran musicians graduated last year, which was our largest turnover in nearly 10 years,” said Holsinger. “However, talented new freshmen have quickly adapted to the collegiate expectations, and I am looking forward to the Wind Ensemble’s first public outing since this unusual circumstance.”

Lee University remains dedicated to the health and safety of both the campus community and guests. COVID-19 protocols will be observed based on CDC recommendations at the time of the performance. Currently, masks are required when indoors on Lee’s campus.

The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. It will also be available via livestream at https://leeu.live.
