Volley for the Cure

News

The Lee University Lady Flames volleyball team will host the
annual Volley for the Cure as a part of Homecoming 2012
festivities. The Lady Flames will face off against the College of
Coastal Georgia on Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in the Walker
Arena.

The goal of the event is to help raise awareness for breast
cancer as well as raise money for the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation
of Chattanooga. The foundation grants scholarships to college
students with a parent affected by breast cancer. This year’s
recipient will be given the scholarship between games on Friday
evening.

Over the past five years Volley for the Cure has raised $85,000
for the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation and hopes to raise an
additional $22,000 with this year’s event.

This year’s theme is “Pink is the New Black.” T-shirts are
available for $5 and can be purchased from the volleyball team, at
games, at the Paul Conn Student Union (PCSU), or from The Plastic
Surgery Clinic of Cleveland.

The fourth annual luncheon for breast cancer survivors will be
held at noon on Thursday, Nov. 1, in the DeVos Recreation Center.
This year’s entertainment will feature recording artist, and
American Idol finalist, Phil Stacey. Stacey will perform musical
selections as well as speak at the luncheon.

Volley for the Cure has once again partnered with the Plastic
Surgery Clinic of Cleveland (PSCC) for the “Flamingo Flocking”
fundraiser. By request, the staff at the PSCC can “flock” someone’s
yard with up to 75 plastic pink flamingos.

Friday afternoon, prior to the Lady Flames’ match, there will be
a silent auction as well as the high school all-star game. Both the
silent auction and the all-stars game will begin at 4:30.

The ladies of Lee’s Greek club Zeta Chi Lambda will once again
host a Pink Party before and during the Lady Flames’ match. The
Pink Party will include fun family activities and will be held in
the lobby of the Walker Arena.
