Voices of Lee Reunion Group to Give Community Concert

Current and former members of Lee University’s a cappella ensemble Voices of Lee (VOL) will perform Saturday, Sept. 10, to celebrate the dedication of the Danny Murray Recording Studio, named in honor of the VOL’s long-time director. The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in Pangle Hall, located on Lee’s campus.
“So many Voices alumni are returning to honor Danny at the ribbon cutting of Lee’s new studio, we saw this event was turning into a pretty big party,” said Lee Chancellor Paul Conn. “We wanted the community to be included in the party, so we’re going to host a Voices reunion concert for everyone. It will be only one hour of music, but hearing all those former Voices on stage together will be very exciting.”
The Saturday evening performance is part of a weekend-long celebration, honoring Danny and Debbie Murray for their four decades of dedication to the musical program of the university. Festivities will include a special dinner for dozens of former “Voices,” who are returning to honor the Murrays, and other weekend activities.
Following the Saturday night concert, all guests are invited to a gourmet buffet and reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place in the intersection of Church Street and Central Avenue, outside the new studio.
Since its debut performance in Lee’s Dixon Center in September 1994, Voices of Lee has captivated audiences worldwide with its unique variety of lush vocal harmonies, along with high energy contemporary a cappella arrangements from several genres.
Under the direction of Danny Murray, the ensemble has performed at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, Christmas at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Shanghai International Music Festival, and in hundreds of appearances across the country. In 2018, they were featured at “Christmas on Broadway” in a national telecast concert called “Make the Season Bright” from the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Voices has recorded 17 CD projects and, most recently, their video recordings have exceeded 111 million views online.
Danny has coached collegiate musicians for more than 40 years. He is a Lee grad (class of 1975) and a choral clinician who brings practical instruction, humor, and dedication to inspire singers to deeper understanding of their musical gifts.
“Danny has created a reputation of consistent excellence in his years directing Voices of Lee,” said Conn. “Simultaneously, he consistently invests in these students’ development, not just as performers, but professionally and personally. Many of them are returning to Cleveland to honor his investment.”
The Saturday night event is free to the public, but tickets are required. Please call (423) 614-8320 for ticket information.
