Voice Students to Present Studio Recital
Students of Lee University voice instructor Delores Beery will present a studio recital on Wednesday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall.
The recital will feature Kyle Ake, Alexis Clark, Kilee Dunn, Alaina Duty, Destiny Hayes, Maya Huffman, Zachary Meredith, Kristen Neal, Haylie Reddy, Marshall Richards, Jaiden Thompson, and Zenovia Woolie.
Guests can expect a wide range of vocal performances including showtunes such as “Unexpected Song” from “Song and Dance,” “Home” from “Phantom,” and “I Enjoy Being a Girl” from “Flower Drum Song;” operatic pieces “Caro Mio Ben” by Giuseppe Giordani and “Se Tu m’ami, se sospiri” by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi; hymns “Wondrous Love” arranged by Richard Walters and “Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow” arranged by Mark Hayes; and songs “Homeward Bound” by Marta Keen, “Danny Boy” arranged by Julie Knowles, and “Five Eyes” by C. Armstrong Gibbs.
Beery has received numerous honors, including the Austrian Ministry of Arts Prize for Singing (full scholarship), the Salzburg Summer Mozarteum Music Academy, the National Broadcast Performance Award (ORF-TV, Vienna, Austria), and the International Rotary Scholarship for studies in Germany. She was also awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts.
Beery performed in Europe for 15 years in opera, chamber and sacred music, musicals, radio and television. She has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic and toured with the New York Harlem Opera Company European Tour of the musical “Showboat” in Holland, France, Monaco, Belgium, Austria, Sicily, Switzerland, Germany and Yugoslavia.
She earned a European doctorate in opera and oratorio and art song from the University Mozarteum Salzburg in Austria, a master’s degree in vocal performance from Wichita State University, and her bachelor’s degree in music education from Friends University.
