Triple Play to Continue Presidential Concert Series

News

Lee’s Presidential Concert Series rolls into the new year by welcoming Chris Brubeck and his band “Triple Play” to Pangle Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. for a musical experience all can enjoy.

Triple Play features Brubeck on electric bass, bass trombone, piano, and vocals; Peter “Madcat” Ruth on harmonica, guitar, jaw harp, percussion, and vocals; and Joel Brown on folk and classical guitar and vocals. Collectively they bring a rare level of joy, virtuosity, and American spirit to the folk, blues, jazz and classical music they perform.

“Triple Play is what jazz always was and always should be about: good-time rhythm, unbridled joy and the sweet release but bittersweet aftertaste of the blues,” said Paul deBarros, writer for The Seattle Times and Downbeat.

The trio frequently plays in concert halls, clubs and festivals, including performing many of Brubeck’s symphonic arrangements with orchestras across the United States.

All Music Guide praised Triple Play’s album “Watching the World” by saying, “It’s great to hear a group that combines top notch musicianship, potent originals, and a touch of humor. This CD is truly a triple play in any fan’s score book.”
