News

Lee’s Department of Language and Literature, along with the Helen DeVos College of Education, recently hosted 28 educators in a five-day workshop, titled “Teaching Reading in Literature and Informational Text (Tri-LIT!): Strategies for Implementing Common Core Standards.” The workshop, made possible by an Improving Teacher Quality Grant from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, focused on implementation of the common core standards for reading literature and informational texts in grades 9-12. Tri-LIT participants received three hours of graduate credit, a $500 stipend, a document camera, and other teaching materials. Three follow-up sessions will take place throughout the fall. This project funded under an agreement with the State of Tennessee. Pictured here at the closing luncheon are the attendees with Special Consultant Carlanna Gill and Co-Directors Dr. Donna Summerlin, professor of English, and Dr. Laura Anderson, professor of education.
