Todd Starnes will be on Lee’s campus to lecture in a special
topics class entitled Political Communication. The one-hour class,
taught by Dr. Megan Moe, features Starnes beginning Monday, Oct. 22
and culminating on Friday, Oct. 26.

Starnes studied communication at Lee in the 1990’s and was the
editor of the university newspaper. He is now a Fox News Channel
journalist where he hosts three daily radio commentaries and is a
frequent contributor on Fox & Friends and Hannity.

Starnes was the embedded reporter on President Obama during the
2008 election and was able to travel with the presidential party
doing in-depth coverage for Fox News.

The purpose of this course is to examine communication in the
field of politics. Starnes will begin the week by discussing a
historical overview political communication in the U.S. Later in
the week he will lecture on topics such as: bias in media, creating
political messages, social media and its effects on political
communication, and an in-depth look at communication in this year’s
presidential election.

“We are excited to offer a special topics class as this is the
first short course offered by the Communication Arts Department,”
said Moe, associate professor of communication at Lee. “Our goal is
to get students involved and critically thinking about political
communication, especially when we are so close to the 2012
election.”

Starnes is also the author of two books including the 2009
best-seller, “They Popped My Hood and Found Gravy on the
Dipstick.”  He is the recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award
and the Associated Press Mark Twain Award.

Starnes is a frequent speaker at churches and Christian
colleges.
