Thompson Wins ACBSP Chair Award

Dr. Dewayne Thompson, dean of Lee University’s School of Business and a distinguished professor of business, recently received the Chair Award from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
The Chair Award recognizes exceptional service to ACBSP or to a member school.
“This year’s award recipient has gone far beyond the call of duty in every way possible,” said Dr. Paul Stumb, president of Cumberland University and chair of ACBSP’s board of directors. “In addition to being a distinguished colleague, a true professional, and a mentor, Dewayne has remained engaged with our organization for over two decades.”
Thompson, a former board chair of ACBSP, has led various committees, presents at the ACBSP conferences, functions as a site evaluator, and is recognized as an expert on ACBSP accreditation standards.
“Without a doubt, ACBSP could not have a better example of dedicated service to this organization than Dewayne Thompson,” said Stumb.
Thompson served as the chair of Lee’s Department of Business from 2006 to 2017 and became the first dean of the School of Business in 2017. He has served in leadership positions at the university for 20 years and is in his 42nd year as a faculty member and administrator. He has been listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and received Lee’s prestigious Excellence in Teaching Award in 1987. In 2013, he was named International Winner for Teaching Excellence by ACBSP.
“ACBSP recognizes quality business programs, and I am pleased to have been affiliated with the organization for the past 20 years,” said Thompson. “I share ACBSP’s values, and for that reason, it is rewarding to participate in and assist with furthering the goals of the organization. It has been a highlight of my professional career to serve at various levels in such a fine organization as ACBSP.”
Founded in 1988, the ACBSP is a global business education accrediting body. By evaluating aspects of leadership, strategic planning, relationships with stakeholders, quality of academic programs, faculty credentials, and educational support, ACBSP assesses whether or not business programs offer a rigorous educational experience and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
