Theatre Opens with Eleemosynary

News

Opening its spring season, Lee University Theatre will present the poignant and probing play Eleemosynary, written by Lee Blessing and directed by Christine Williams, assistant professor of theatre at Lee. Performance dates are Feb. 16-20 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 19 at 2:30 p.m. in the Edna Minor Conn Theatre (Vest 305).

Described by Variety magazine as “an intriguing journey through the psyches of three exceptional women,” Eleemosynary centers on the lives of eccentric 75-year-old Dorothea; her jaded middle-aged daughter, Artie; and Artie’s bright 16-year-old daughter, Echo.

Blessing presents fragmented vignettes of the lives of the three Wesbrook women as they struggle to define themselves both as individuals and as part of a family unit. In this poignant and mature study of familial relationships, Blessing highlights the human need for connection and forgiveness. This play is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Tickets are available at the Dixon Center Box Office beginning Feb. 13 from 3-6 p.m. The box office is open Monday through Saturday and one hour before each performance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children, seniors, and students.
