The Brilliance to Perform in Chapel Tuesday

News

The Brilliance will return to Lee University’s Conn Center stage to perform in chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10:40 a.m.

Founded in 2009, The Brilliance is composed of artists David Gungor and John Arndt. As a contemporary classical duo, their music is described as “musically rich, theologically brave, and emotionally honest.” Both Gungor and Arndt are also members of David’s brother’s band, Gungor, a perennial favorite at Lee.

“The Brilliance is one of an emerging new breed of Christian artists who are taking our nature as ‘storied’ creatures seriously and putting forward a sort of ‘new liturgy’ which both honors the past and points the way forward into the future,” said Noisetrade, an online music sharing community. “Taking their musicality to new heights, blending strings, keys, percussion and voice, along with poetry and prayer, The Brilliance appeals to diverse audiences, across generations, denominations and cultures.”

The duo has released several albums, including “Lent,” “Cavetime: A Worship Experience,” “Advent: Volumes I and II,” and their first album, “The Brilliance.” They play at churches, conferences, and events all over the country and collaborate with other musicians focused on reviving liturgy in worship music. The Brilliance also released a song book in August of this year which contains the scores and lyrics to all of their songs.

“The first time The Brilliance was on campus they were the opening act for a spring 2012 U-Church,” said Josh York, U-Church director. “We knew immediately this was a group we wanted to have return to campus. David and John have been kind enough to not only share their music in U-Church and in Chapel services, but they have also spent time in the classroom, at luncheons, and in rehearsals with our students, teaching and mentoring them. We are so excited to have these talented worship leaders with us again.”

Lee University Conn Center is located on the corner of Parker and 11th Street in Cleveland. Chapel is designed for student worship, but the community is always welcome to attend.
