News

A special spring performance will be presented by the Lee University Symphonic Band under Conductor and Professor of Music Dr. Mark Bailey on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The ensemble will perform an eclectic concert of band classics, which will include several selections from the worship music repertoire the ensemble regularly presents in churches across America.

The program, “Faith and Family,” will feature works by James Curnow, Galante, Andrew Boysen, John Philip Sousa and Larry Daehn. Other featured music will include works by Professor of Music David Holsinger, conductor of Lee’s Wind Ensemble and resident composer at the university.

Lee’s Symphonic Band has performed at churches across the country and at conferences such as the Christian Instrumentalists and Directors Association National Conference and the Atlanta Instrumental Expo Conference, the largest instrumental church music conference in America.

The ensemble has also performed at numerous music festivals, appeared on television and radio, headlined important university events, and toured twelve foreign countries including the Bahamas, Botswana, Brazil, Guatemala, Jordan, Mexico, South Africa, Trinidad, Cuba and China. The group is in preparation now for a spring tour of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The Lee University Symphonic Band has a reputation as an outstanding performance ensemble with superior musicianship, as well as the ability to use their music as ministry.

“The Lee Symphonic Band has always prided itself in being able to perform many different styles of music in its church performances. This will be demonstrated in the Tuesday evening concert,” said Bailey. “Because of this, many people see the sincerity of the performances of these students as they inspire many to seek a relationship with Christ as Savior.”

The 2016 Lee University Symphonic Band consists of 48 musicians, several having participated in former all-state and all-regional bands in Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, Alabama and Georgia.

The concert is free, non-ticketed and open to the public.
