Nine Lee University students recently traveled to Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky, to present original academic research at the 25th annual Blue Ridge Undergraduate Research Conference.

The eight students who presented in the literature panels are Emily Baker, Rebecca Doss, Erin McLaughlin, Jaran Miller, Macy O’Fallon, Maddie Schultz, Alexandra Squires, and Benjamin Stallings. In the science panel, Jillian Sturtevant presented a research paper. The literary analysis papers were on topics such as Shakespeare’s “King Lear” and Tennyson’s “In Memoriam.”

“Receiving outside input on my work helped me recognize where I need to hone my skills and where I could excel,” said Doss. “In many ways, presenting built my confidence in my work and my ability to operate within the academic community as an educated person.”

Of Lee’s nine students, Baker, O’Fallon, and Schultz won the top three awards in the English/literature category.

Lee students were accompanied by Dr. Christopher Coulter and Dr. Andrew Lee from the Lee University Department of Languages and Literature, along with Dr. John Hisey from the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

“All of our students were praised for their polished skills in presentation, even the ones who did not win an award,” said Coulter.
