The art work of seven Lee University students has been accepted into the Athens Area Council for the Arts (AACA) Regional College Student Art Show. This competitive juried exhibition opened Feb. 15 and will run through Friday, April 1, at the Arts Center in Athens, Tennessee.

“The artists from Lee that are represented in this show range from freshman to seniors,” said Mary Mathias-Dickerson, assistant professor of art at Lee. “I am excited to see students engaging in the art world beyond Lee’s campus early in their college careers.”

The artists include art students Charissa Barnett, Bradley DeYoung, Ansley Duncan, Oksana Ferenchuk, Kaylee Mayton, Zach Tallackson, and Reagan Weiss.

“They all submitted excellent work,” said Mathias-Dickerson. “I am proud that so many of their pieces were included in the exhibition.”

Duncan’s “Boom Goes The Dynamite” and DeYoung’s “The Plane” both received an honorable mention by the juror.

“It’s been great to be a part of something so diverse,” said Barnett, a senior art major from Mason City, Illinois. “I am impressed by the varied styles and genres represented by students’ work from all of the colleges at the exhibit, and I appreciate this opportunity to share my work with others and watch how it is received.”

The Athens Area Council for the Arts (AACA) has served as the core organization dedicated to the enhancement of the cultural life in the community since 1979. Its mission is to enrich the quality of life and make a difference by providing opportunities for the expression and appreciation of the arts.
