Lee University is hosting its Fall Student Invitational Art Show, featuring the works of Lee students enrolled in studio art classes. The show, which will open September 16 with a reception at 9:30 a.m. and will run through December 1 in the Mayfield Gallery, located in the Mayfield Annex on Lee’s campus.

“I am so proud of the work our students are producing in the studio, and it is always an honor to showcase their art,” said Victoria Phillips, visiting assistant professor of art.

For the Student Invitational show, students are recommended by faculty for the exhibition.
The students whose work will be on display in the Mayfield Gallery include Hannah Gravitt, Julia Halterman, Hensley Johnson, Madison Kelsch, Ashlyn Kirtner, Leah Marrero, Mackenzie McIntyre, Anna Joy Nyberg, Emma Sargent, Charis Trammell, and Deena Vore.

“Victoria’s Trinkets” by McIntyre

“In my oil painting, a still life of fabric and reflective objects, I wanted to depict the beauty of ordinary objects and details that occasionally get overlooked in the business of everyday life,” said McIntyre, who will have two oil paintings on display. “This piece resembles a sewing room, and by incorporating green, white, and neutral colors, it has a vintage and classy feel.”

Nyberg, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, is currently a senior art student at Lee. She initially got her start in art by using Sharpie to color canvas shoes. She now explores charcoal and detailed, close-up compositions. She is inspired by nature and everyday items. Her deep contrasts of value display her desire to look past the ordinary into what truly makes up the world. Nyberg will have three drawings on display.

The Student Invitational Art Show is free and open to the public.
