String Theory, in partnership with Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, will continue Season 12 with String Theory @ Home, featuring a virtual concert with dynamic husband-wife duo violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky and pianist Wu Qian.

This second installment of String Theory @ Home will premiere online Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. on String Theory’s website, Facebook page, and YouTube.

“Even though we are still not able to gather in our beautiful home at the Hunter Museum, I am so grateful to be able to present this wonderful performance for our friends and guests,” said String Theory Artistic Director and pianist Gloria Chien.

The virtual concert, sponsored by Pinnacle Financial Partners, will feature Schnittke’s Suite in the Old Style for Violin and Piano, Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir d’un lieu cher (Memory of a Dear Place), and Grieg’s Violin Sonato No. 3. The event will also feature a post-concert interview with the artists.

Sitkovetsky made his concerto debut at the age of eight, going on to perform with the Netherlands Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, English Chamber Orchestra, Academy of St. Martin’s in the Fields, and the BBC Concert Orchestra. Together with his wife, Qian, and cellist Leonard Elschenbroich, Sitkovetsky performs in the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio, regularly giving performances in England at Wigmore Hall and across Europe in halls such as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and the Frankfurt Alte Oper.

Qian was born in Shanghai, where she received her early training before being invited to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School. Qian has given recitals throughout Europe, including the Steinway Halls of Hamburg where her performance was broadcasted throughout Asia. Other international engagements have included appearances at the Steinway Hall in New York, the Hong Kong City Hall, the Koblenz Festival in Germany, the Santander International Festival, and the Yale Summer Music Festival.

There will be no fee for the String Theory @ Home concert and all are welcome to view.

The performance will be available for one week after it premieres on the website, Facebook page, and YouTube. It will also be rebroadcasted on WTCI Rebroadcast Channel 45 on Sunday, Dec.6, at 4 p.m. and WSMC 90.5 FM on Sunday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m.

String Theory will host three more concerts in Spring 2021 and the dates will be announced later this month.
