Dr. Christopher Stephenson

Lee University’s Dr. Christopher Stephenson recently published “Profiles of Pentecostal Theology” through Brill Academic Publishers.

Published in October 2021, the book traces major developments in biblical studies, systematic theology, and theological ethics within academic Pentecostal theology. It is included in the Brill Research Perspectives series, which is designed to introduce intellectuals to topics that they may not have had the opportunity to study.

Stephenson, associate professor of systematic theology in the Department of Theology at Lee, was originally invited by a series editor for Brill to write the book based on his expertise in Pentecostal theology and tradition. The book includes information and an extensive bibliography to help readers navigate a growing body of literature in Pentecostal theology and points to some areas in the discipline that theologians could give more attention to.

“I hope that the book will serve scholars who are interested in learning more about Pentecostal theology and benefit ministers and laypersons who study informally in order to teach others in the church,” said Stephenson.

Stephenson, an internationally recognized scholar of Pentecostalism, is the author of “Types of Pentecostal Theology: Method, System, Spirit” and has written extensively on ecumenism, pneumatology, and intersections of theology. He has participated in ecumenical dialogues with the Catholic Church, the World Council of Churches, and the Mennonite Church U.S.A. and is a member of the Centre of Theology and Philosophy.

Stephenson received his Doctor of Philosophy in religious studies from Marquette University and his Master of Arts in theological studies and Bachelor of Arts in pastoral ministry from Lee University.
