Lee University is hosting its Spring Student Invitational Art Show, featuring the works of Lee students enrolled in studio art classes. The show, which opened on Feb. 18, will run through April 22 in the Mayfield Gallery, located in the Mayfield Annex on Lee’s campus.

“I am honored to be able to share our Spring Invitational Art Show with the community and our students,” said Victoria Phillips, visiting assistant professor of art. “We have a variety of majors represented in this show, from art to business as well as computer engineering, and I am so proud of the work our students are producing in the studio classes!”

This showcase features several different artistic mediums such as painting, photography, sculpture, and ceramics.

The students whose work is currently on display in the Mayfield Gallery were recommended by their art professors and include Dee Burris, Kate Collins, Elisiana Esworthy, Anna Evans, Julia Halterman, Stone Kalnins, Emily Libbey, Charis Moffitt, Makenzie Muratore, Anna Nyberg, Sylvie Patty, Jamis Rose, Emma Sargent, and Deena Vore.

“The geometry of nature inspired me to explore 3D forms,” said Patty. “The mobile drew on the forms of unique creatures like jellyfish and diatoms. I constructed each wire frame to differ from the other in shape and color. I enjoyed mixing multiple mediums to imitate geometries from life.”

Her works on display include an accordion book and a mobile sculpture.

“My mixed media self-portrait was created as a part of a 2D design exploration,” said Vore. “I sought to expand the concept of using only textured prints by incorporating materials that can be both seen and felt. The natural textures and earthy palette reflect my relationship with myself and the world – a reminder that, at our core, we are all part of the natural world.”

Her works on display include two photography pieces and a mixed media self-portrait.

The Student Invitational Art Show is free and open to the public.
