Events, Music, News

Lee University’s School of Music will present the Saxophone Ensemble and Studio Recital on Friday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Center on Paul Conn Parkway.

“Lee Saxes always performs an intriguing mix of music that spans several centuries,” said Clint Schmitt, conductor of Lee Saxes and part-time faculty in Lee’s School of Music. “We hope everyone will join us for this special evening of music.”

The program will include performances by the larger ensemble Lee Saxes, several soloists from Schmitt’s studio, and a saxophone quartet, incorporating a mix of transcriptions and original saxophone works of pieces by Harold Arlen, Johann Sebastian Bach, Daniel Bukin, Philippe Geiss, and Felix Mendelssohn, among others.

In addition to serving at Lee University, Schmitt has served on the faculties of University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Southern Adventist University, where he taught applied saxophone, Jazz Survey, and woodwind methods classes. Schmitt performs regularly in Chattanooga and surrounding areas and has presented numerous recitals at universities across the Southeast. He holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and Jacksonville State University.

This event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at leeu.live.
