SOM to Host Virtual Collab Music
Lee University School of Music w ill host a continuation of the Virtual LeeU Collab Music on Saturday, Jan. 30. The event will be held over Zoom with Dr. ChoEun Lee, assistant professor of collaborative piano and vocal coaching at Lee, as the event director.
LeeU Collab Music is a day-long workshop focusing on musical collaboration. It aims to guide all musicians—vocalists, instrumentalists, and pianists—to enrich their knowledge related to the collaborative arts field and to become successful collaborators in making music together. LeeU Collab Music welcomes pre-collegiate (high school), collegiate students, and teaching professionals.
“In the fall, we had a productive workshop discussing various aspects of musical collaboration with over 70 participants from seven different states including Canada,” said Lee. “We look forward to continuing this fantastic adventure with all who can join us.”
The day’s events will include lectures such as “Music Learning and the Brain” by Dr. Ana María Otamendi from Louisiana State University, “Instrumental-Piano Masterclass” by Dr. Aram Arakelyan from Indiana University, “Diction Workshop” by Dr. Andrea Dismukes from Lee University, “Prep. Strategies for Chamber Music Rehearsal” by Dr. Charlotte Kies from Lee University, and “Improvisations in the Chu rch” by Dr. Randy Sheeks, also from Lee.
The event will include a panel of Lee’s School of Music faculty Drs. Mark Bailey, Luke Gambill, and Nathaniel Olson. The panel, “Collaborative Experience in Various Fields,” will focus on collaboration in fields such as orchestra, opera, music ministry, music business, and the army reserve.
Dr. Lee has worked extensively in recitals and masterclasses with renowned musicians, including Stephanie Blythe, Martin Katz, Anne Sofie von Otter, and Christine Schäfer. She was named a recipient of the Grace B. Jackson Prize and of the Gwendolyn Koldofsky Keyboard Collaborative Arts scholarship four times.
