SOM to Host Saxophone Choir Concert Wednesday
The Lee University School of Music will host a saxophone choir concert on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Squires Recital Hall.
The group consists of saxophonists from the studios of Lee faculty Dr. Brenda Moye and Mr. Alan Wyatt, and Mr. Clint Schmitt from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The choir consists of saxophones ranging from the Eb sopranino to the Bb bass.
The repertoire in the program features music from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Originally, the pieces were composed for various ensembles including the organ and the voice. The music in the program is arranged specifically for saxophones by Moye, Schmitt, and Wyatt.
The concert will include pieces by Giovanni Gabrieli, William Byrd, Henry Purcell, George F. Handel, J.S. Bach, Ronald Caravan, George Gershwin, and Miles Davis, and will be conducted by both Wyatt and Schmitt.
Lee saxophonists are Clay Fissel, John Grauberger, Eric Harper, Tyler High, Candace Lambert, Olivia Lewis, Sophie Lockhart, Jalil Muhammad, Evan Rawlins, Josiah Sytsma, Zac Truett, Alyssa Turner, and Alex Wehunt. The rhythm section includes Robert Acevedo, Tyler Jenkins, and faculty bass guitar artist Shawn Perkinson.
