Lee alumnus, Marty Smith (’89), recently took part in the celebrated tradition of ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. On June 24, Smith joined other members of the executive leadership team for Quorum Health Corporation (QHC) to open trading at the famed marketplace. Marty was recently appointed Executive Vice President of Operations for the newly formed QHC after serving for 18 years with the parent company, Community Health Systems (CHS), the nation’s second-largest hospital chain. After joining CHS in 1998, Marty was named vice president of group operations in 2005 before being promoted to Division President in 2008.

Last year the Franklin, Tenn-based CHS announced plans to launch Quorum Health Corporation in Spring 2016. The new company was created to operate and manage a group of 38 hospitals in 16 states. In October 2015 Marty was named to the leadership team of Quorum. “Marty Smith has distinguished himself as an excellent hospital operator who understands the opportunities and complexities facing hospitals and healthcare systems today,” said Wayne T. Smith, chairman and chief executive officer of Community Health Systems, Inc. “He is highly regarded by our hospital leadership teams, physicians and employees. He has contributed to our company’s growth through the successful integration of several recent hospital acquisitions and through his commitment to excellence at the hospitals and physician practices served by his Division.”
