Lee University’s School of Music will present the Small Jazz Ensemble concert on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall. The ensemble will be coached by faculty member Dr. Nathan Warner.

Among the featured compositions are “Bags’ Groove” by Milt Jackson, “Silver Lining” by Mike Stern, “My Funny Valentine” by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart, “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” by Duke Ellington and Bob Russell, and “C Jam Blues” by Ellington.

The program will feature performances by Lee students Jacob Coleman, Mitchell Goodpasture, Joshua Hill, Victor Johnson, Dumisa Moyo, Osano Neely, Timothy Ports, Luke Wild, and Matthew Zalusky.

Warner, assistant professor of music, earned his doctor of musical arts in trumpet performance from Stony Brook University in New York. He performs regularly as a classical, orchestral, commercial, big band, and jazz artist in New York City, where he lived for 15 years. As an advocate for music education for inner city youth, Warner served as the music teacher at St. Mark the Evangelist School in Harlem, New York. He has also worked with the New York Pops Orchestra Outreach Program and the Hartwick College Summer Music Festival and Institute.
