Six New Faculty Join College of Arts & Sciences

Lee University welcomed 14 new faculty members to its campus this fall, six of which have been added to its College of Arts & Sciences.

Dr. David Broersma joins Lee’s Department of Language and Literature as an associate professor of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and linguistics. He comes to Lee after serving 14 years as department chair, and later as Vice President for Academic Affairs, at the Russian-American Institute in Moscow. In 2010, he became a graduate program director at LCC International University in Lithuania. In addition to these responsibilities, Broersma served as director of Hinkson Christian Academy in Moscow and was on faculty at Wheaton College (Ill.).

Broersma earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Arts (MA) at the University of Illinois and his Bachelor of Arts (BA) at Purdue University.

Jared Cole joins Lee’s Communication Arts department as a visiting lecturer in theatre. Prior to Lee, Cole served as an assistant professor of theatre, scenic and lighting designer, and technical director at Oral Roberts University. He has also taught at Greenville College and Transylvania University and was a teaching assistant at Wayne State.

Cole earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Wayne State University and his BA at Greenville College.

Dr. Daniel Cutshaw, a Lee alum (‘03), returns to campus as a lecturer in English in the Department of Language and Literature. He has been an adjunct professor of rhetoric at Patrick Henry College, as well as teaching part time at Lord Fairfax Community College, Thomas Nelson Community College and Bethel College.

Cutshaw earned his PhD and MA from Old Dominion University.

Lecturer in Chemistry Allison LaFramboise has served as laboratory manager for Lee’s Natural Science and Mathematics department since 2011. While in her graduate program in chemistry at the University of Florida, LaFramboise was a chemical hygiene officer as well as a graduate teaching assistant in general chemistry.

LaFramboise earned her MA from the University of Florida and her Bachelor of Science (BS) from Lee (’08).

Dr. Laura Mitchell joins the Communications Art department as an assistant professor of public relations. She comes to Lee from teaching at the Moscow University Touro, where she also served as public relations director. In addition to her teaching experience, Mitchell has worked with the Peace Corps in Russia as a business development volunteer and the creative lead project manager at the Regent University School of Law, Marketing and Communications Office.

Mitchell earned her PhD from Regent University and her Master of Science (MS) and BA from Rowan University.

Phil Rickard joins Lee’s Business Department as an associate professor of accounting. He comes to Lee from the faculty at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio). During his tenure, Rickard was named to Ohio’s 100 Top Educators. In addition to his teaching experience, he worked in the energy industry as an assistant controller and staff accountant, and is a certified public accountant.

Rickard earned his MA from Marshall University and is a Doctor of Business Administration candidate at Northcentral University. He earned his BS at Concord University.
