Shenanigans to Perform 15th Anniversary Shows
Lee University’s improvisation comedy group, Shenanigans, will perform its 15th anniversary shows on Friday, Nov. 4, at 10 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 5, at 9 p.m. Both shows will take place in Lee’s Dixon Center during this year’s Homecoming weekend.
To celebrate its anniversary, Shenanigans will welcome back past members to the stage to perform along with current members.
“Shenanigans has been a contagious source of late-night laughs ever since 2007,” said Garrett Wheeler, Shenanigans team coach. “With over 80 members through the years, we’ve been a Lee fan-favorite entertainment source for students, faculty, and community members alike. So, whether it’s someone’s first time, or they’re a veteran ‘Shenanifan,’ we invite everyone to come relive their younger years with some cheap and family-friendly entertainment.”
In past semesters, the group’s performances have drawn hundreds of audience attendees. While the improvised skits almost always contain comic elements, the stories often include drama and intrigue.
This year’s members include Dursun Asik, Jordan Babb, Bethany Carroll, Shauna Drinnon, Anah Fickett, Ethan Hutchison, Smith Langstaff, Seth Palmer, Aaron Sills, David Steinmetz, and Wheeler.
Shenanigans started in 2007 as Lee’s first improv team. Skits are unscripted, featuring a set of various games that encourage the creativity of both actors and audience. A moderator may force team members to change the last spoken word on a whim, incorporate surprise quotes into their dialogue, or just radically change the scene, all in the interest of discovering new possibilities in even the simplest of scenes.
These family-friendly shows are expected to last an hour and a half. Tickets are free for those registered for Homecoming and $1 at the door for those who are not. Doors will open 30 minutes before each show.
Lee’s Homecoming celebration will bring together thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and staff for a weekend of fun and new memories with old friends. Events include Volley for a Cure, Lee Theatre’s production of “Antigone,” the Parade of Favorites, and much more.
