Senior Art Showcase to Open Nov. 6

Art, News

Lee University will host the Senior Art Showcase at the Squires Library Fine Art Gallery from Thursday, Nov. 6 to Tuesday, Nov. 25. An opening reception will take place on Nov. 6 from 5-6 p.m., where the artists will be present to open the show and answer questions regarding their work.

The exhibition will feature art by Lindsay Brooker, an art major with K-12 teacher licensure emphasis; Layne Condra, an art with graphic design emphasis and communication double major with an advertising minor; Ashlyn Kirtner, an art with studio and graphic design double emphasis major with business administration and marketing minors; and Deena Vore, an art major with graphic design emphasis.

“I am so excited for this exhibition,” said Victoria Phillips, assistant professor of art at Lee. “This show represents a diverse group of students from art education to graphic design. It is always an honor to share our students’ work and highlight their achievements. Senior shows are even more special because we get to celebrate the conclusion of the artistic journey our students have been on since their first art class.”

Vore’s work celebrates biodiversity while raising awareness about endangered species and habitat preservation. Her acrylic and oil paintings feature threatened species.

“This exhibition represents the culmination of that journey and my time at Lee University, where I returned to school at 37 after selling our Florida home and relocating to Tennessee to make this degree possible,” said Vore. “Each piece in this collection—from the vibrant red-eyed tree frog to the critically endangered Amur tiger, from the essential pollinator bumble bee to the declining Black Crested Managabey —tells a story of species that need our attention and protection.”

Brooker’s art reflects on the hope Christians have amongst the death and brokenness of the world. Her pieces feature watercolor, charcoal, and ink subjects.

“My current work is a personal exploration of the fragility of life,” said Brooker. “Each piece in this series is a reflection of the delicate balance between the fleeting and the eternal. Through my work, I attempt to capture the moments of both the grief and the hope in life.”

The Senior Art Showcase is free and open to the public during regular operating hours of the library, which can be found by visiting libguides.com/homepage.
