Dr. Chad Schrock, associate professor of English, has been selected as the winner of Lee University’s 2021 Excellence in Advising Award. Lee President Dr. Mark Walker made this announcement during the university’s May commencement ceremonies.

“True advisors at Lee do more than help their students schedule the right classes; they genuinely care for their emotional, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing,” said Walker. “Chad Schrock is a true advisor and is a worthy recipient of this award.”

Schrock has been at Lee University since 2010, specializing in early British literature. He regularly teaches classes such as Rhetoric and Research, Western Literature I: Ancient to Renaissance, Foundations of Literature in English, Senior Thesis, Chaucer, C. S. Lewis, and English in Christian Perspective.

His first book, “Consolation in Medieval Narrative,” was published in 2015. Elsewhere he has articles published or forthcoming on literature from the eighth, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Most recently, he is working on a second book which focuses on Chaucer and the Bible.

“This award is very meaningful to me, close to my heart,” said Schrock. “In an extraordinarily difficult year to be a student, it’s been my privilege to walk with a number of students through these dark times and try to shed light academically and spiritually on their life at Lee. I’m so proud of the people they’ve worked so hard to become.”

Schrock has also received the Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching awards, making him one of the few in the school’s history to receive all three.

The Excellence Awards are the highest honors presented to Lee faculty members. The recipient of the Excellence in Advising Award is chosen by a faculty committee, which reviews a three-year history of student advisor evaluation data as well as other information provided by the nominating department chairs and deans.
