Lee University’s Trombone Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Doug Warner, will present a concert on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

Featured works will include selections such as Chris M. Sharpe’s “Apogee Fanfare,” Bill Reichenbach’s “Scarborough Fair,” and Ralph Carmichael’s “A Quiet Place.”

“It has been said that the trombone is an instrument that very closely resembles the human voice in timbre,” said Warner. “That may be why composers have traditionally used the trombone section to accompany and support choral ensembles. Their homogeneous sound allows for a marvelous and rich blend of tonal colors.”

The Lee Trombone Ensemble is made up of Lee University trombonists who are music majors, as well as a few from outside the School of Music. Since the fall of 2021, the group has also welcomed several alumni and community members.

“We hope that the audience will be inspired and energized by the music we’ve chosen for this concert,” said Warner.

Warner joined the School of Music faculty in 2002. He currently serves as the director of Applied Studies in Music and teaches Applied Trombone, Music History, and Gateway for music majors. In addition to his employment at Lee, Warner has been principal trombonist of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera since 1985.

The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at leeu.live/.
