School of Music to Present Small Jazz Ensemble Concert

The Lee University Small Jazz Ensemble, directed by Shawn Perkinson, will perform on Monday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center on Lee’s campus.
The group comprises 14 students including vocalists Maya Nobles, Jazmin DeRubeis, Raquel Davis, Kaden Pennertz; guitarists Elijah Kyle, Eli Daniel, Allison Lamm; saxophonists Austin Petitt, Jarred Poe; drummers Dean Feldbrush, Christopher Phillips; bassist Maddie Fox; pianist Gabriel Brooks; and violinist Arami Anderson.
The concert will feature jazz classics such as “All of Me,” “Almost Like Being in Love,” and “Moonglow,” as well as more contemporary pieces such as “Just the Way You Are” and “God Only Knows.”
“This semester has been really enjoyable for me as it’s always a fun challenge to chart and arrange new music for the students and to hear them play songs many of them have never heard before,” said Perkinson. “The program will have a little bit of something for everyone.”
Perkinson studied with Mark Boling, Donald Brown, and Jerry Coker while earning his bachelor’s degree in studio music and jazz from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He has performed and recorded with many groups and artists over the years, including The Charlie Daniels Band and Widespread Panic.
The event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. For livestream viewing, visit leeu.live.
The Dixon Center is located on the corner of 11th and Church streets.
