School of Music to Host Brass Day
The Lee University School of Music will host Brass Day on Saturday, Feb. 22, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Curtsinger Music Building. The event, designed for high school students in grades 9-12, will offer a day of music-making, skill-building, and performances.
Brass Day will feature faculty-led warm-up sessions tailored to each instrument, providing personalized instruction to participants. Throughout the day, students will also engage in masterclasses presented by Lee University’s brass faculty.
“This event will be a valuable experience for young brass musicians looking to enhance their skills, make music, and connect with others!” said Dr. Jesse McConnell, professor of tuba and euphonium and director of music events at Lee. “One of the highlights of the day will be the opportunity for participants to come together and play in a mass brass ensemble.”
The event will conclude with a concert at 3:30 p.m. featuring the mass brass ensemble along with Lee Student Brass Ensembles and the Lee Faculty Brass Quintet. The concert, which will take place in Squires Recital Hall, is free and open to the public. Squires Recital Hall is in the Humanities Center on Parker Street.
The Lee Faculty Brass Quintet will feature three of its regular members on Brass Day: Dr. Barkey Bryant on trumpet, Dr. Doug Warner on trombone, and McConnell on tuba. Joining them is Glen Olsen, also on trumpet, and Lee alum Logan Henson on horn.
Registration for Brass Day is $10. To register, visit LeeUBrassDay.eventbrite.com.
