The Lee University School of Music and School of Religion will
jointly present “Lessons & Carols” on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in
the Lee University Chapel. The program will consist of nine
scriptural readings relating to the birth of Christ, interspersed
with appropriate Christmas carols.

Musical selections will be performed by the Lee University
Chorale, conducted by Dean of the School of Music William R. Green.
Chorale will also lead congregational singing of traditional
carols.

Readings will include scripture texts relating to the birth of
Jesus, as well as prayers and texts either written or selected by
Dean of the School of Religion Terry Cross. The selections will be
read by faculty and staff members from the School of Religion.

“Lessons & Carols combines the Word of God with music,”
Green said. “The two mediums partner to tell the story of
Christ.”

Musical highlights of the program include traditional Christmas
favorites such as “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “The First Noel,”
“It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and “O Come O Come Emmanuel,” as
well as Chorale’s performances of “Estampie Natalis” and “The
Shepherd’s Farewell” and organ performances by Matthew Krepps,
associate professor of chemistry.

“This evening is not a concert so much as it is a collaboration
of text, both read and sung,” Green said. “Every person in
attendance has the opportunity to participate in the singing and
receive the teaching.”

Admission is free of charge and the event is not ticketed, but
seating is limited. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. For more
