Lee University recently announced Anna Sandberg as the 2014 recipient of the Charles Paul Conn Award. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Debbie Murray recognized Sandberg for this award during the Honors Chapel on April 10.

This award is given to a Lee senior who demonstrates the greatest promise of achievement in graduate or professional studies after graduating from Lee. Established in 1996, it is named after Lee’s sixteenth president. Each department may nominate one student for the award, and from these nominees a winner is selected by a faculty vote.

“Annie’s academic work is marked by a profound sense of calling and service,” said Assistant Professor of Mathematics Dr. Laura Singletary. “We believe that Annie will contribute significantly to her field during her graduate studies and beyond because her sense of calling will motivate her work.”

Sandberg will graduate from Lee this May with a double major in mathematics and chemistry.

“I am just so very honored to be given such a high distinction,” said Sandberg. “My experience at Lee is everything and more of what I hoped for college, and I will forever be proud to call it my home.”

While at Lee, Sandberg was a Presidential Scholar, received tennis and leadership scholarships, and interned at the NASA Glenn Research Center.

Sandberg has served as captain for the Lady Flames tennis team, the president of Lee Prime, treasurer of Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society, and president of Sigma Nu Sigma service club. She also worked as a teaching assistant for Physics I and Calculus I and was a tennis instructor for Trousdale School in Cleveland.

Sandberg received tuition scholarships from Vanderbilt University and The Ohio State University for the pursuit of her doctorate.
