Presidential Concert Series to Welcome Chanticleer
Lee University’s Presidential Concert Series will welcome international recording and touring ensemble Chanticleer on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.
Praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for their “tonal luxuriance and crisply etched clarity,” Chanticleer is known around the world as “an orchestra of voices” for the seamless blend of its 12 male voices ranging from countertenor to bass and its original interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music.
Called “the world’s reigning male chorus” by The New Yorker, the San Francisco-based, GRAMMY® award winning ensemble Chanticleer is now in its 37th season, performing throughout the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden. Since the group began releasing recordings in 1981, they have sold well over a million albums and won two GRAMMY® awards.
Chanticleer was named Ensemble of the Year by Musical America in 2008, and was installed in the American Classical Music Hall of Fame the same year.
Chanticleer’s mission is to “present choral music at the highest level of excellence and to encourage worldwide appreciation for the art of ensemble singing through live performances, education, recording and the creation of new choral work.”
