Dr. Jessica Piso

Lee University’s School of Music will present Dr. Jessica Piso, instructor of flute, in a faculty recital on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 3 p.m. The performance will take place in Squires Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Building on Lee’s campus.

The recital will feature pieces such as “Partita” in A minor for solo flute BWV 1013 by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Rondo” in D major K. 184 Anh by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and “Carnival of Venice” Op. 78 by Giulio Briccialdi.

“Think of this performance as a living time capsule traveling to the early 1700’s Baroque Germany, late 1700’s Classical Vienna, late 1800’s Romantic Italy, the early 1900’s Paris Conservatoire, and the 1990’s with representation of the Southwest Hopi Native American sound and a modern, American jazz-inspired sound. All are invited to join me on this journey through time and sound.”

Piso is an active performer and teacher across the country. Her professional flute and piccolo experience includes substitute performances with the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra, Northern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and the Oklahoma Festival Ballet. She has performed locally, at state level festivals, and at the National Flute Association conference.

Piso has taught college and private applied flute lessons, studio, chamber coaching, music appreciation courses, flute methods for music education majors, and conducted flute choirs. She has enhanced her teaching expertise through completion of units in Suzuki Flute Teacher Training and serves on the National Flute Association Flute Clubs Committee.

She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in flute performance from the University of Oklahoma, Master of Music in flute performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Bachelor of Music Education with instrumental emphasis from Ohio University.
