Pianist Sioles to Perform Saturday
This Saturday, Feb. 18, Lee University will host guest pianist Gregory
Sioles. His recital will be held in the Squires Recital Hall at 7:30
p.m.
The program will consist of four major pieces: Chaconne in G Major by Handel, Sonata in A Minor by Schubert, Fantasia on an Ostinato by Corigliano, and Sonata in C Minor by Beethoven.
He
is currently an assistant professor of piano at Louisiana State
University. Sioles made his international debut in 1983 when he first
performed in London. Since then he has performed in Spain, Germany,
Switzerland, Scotland, China, and Taiwan. In the U.S., Sioles has
appeared in places such as the Kennedy Center, the National Gallery of
Art, and the Smithsonian.
Sioles has received numerous awards
including an Atwater Kent Grand Prize and a Fulbright Scholarship for
his study in London. He is also an active soloist with orchestras as
well as a recitalist.
Sioles will also be teaching a master class at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17 in Squires.
Sioles’
teachers include Gyorgy Sebok, Victor Aller, Aube Tzerko, and Maria
Curicio, whom he served as a teaching assistant. He has also taught at
the University of Maryland, the Peabody Conservatory, and the Levine
School of Music in Washington, D.C.
The event is free and open
to the public. The Squires Recital Hall is located in the Humanities
