The Lee University Percussion Group will present its spring concert on Thursday, March 22 under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger and conductor Brandon Wood. In addition to group performances, the concert will feature solo selections by student performers. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

Group performances will include Trio for Percussion by Warren Benson; Bravura, a percussion quintet by Phil Faini; Lux Aurumque by Eric Whitacre; Sabre Dance, a lively final act from Aram Khachaturian’s ballet Gayane; and John Cage’s Living Room Music that will feature a variety of instruments, all of which may be found in a living room of a typical house.

Student solo performers are Matthew Benton, Kenneth Callaway, Jacob Gray, Kenwin Hunte, Lex Phillips, Genny Ward and Keigan Warren.

Harnsberger serves as Lee’s director of percussion studies and artist-in-residence with a versatile career as a performer and educator. He has performed in a variety of settings across the United States, Europe, and Japan and presents numerous solo recitals and clinics throughout the country each year.

Harnsberger has appeared as a guest clinician at many Percussive Arts Society “Days of Percussion,” and has been a featured solo artist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), Spoleto Festival USA and Piccolo Spoleto Festival. He received his Doctorate of Musical Arts in performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.

Wood is an adjunct instructor of percussion at Lee. He is a member of North Star Percussion and has performed with numerous symphonic groups across the country. From 2004 to 2008, he was a member of the Kings Brass, a professional recording ministry ensemble that performs approximately 120 concerts a year.

Wood is a doctoral candidate and teaching assistant at the University of Kentucky. He received his Master of Music in performance from Florida State University and his BA in music education from Lee University.
