Percussion Ensemble to Present Spring Performance
The Lee University Percussion Ensemble will perform on Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. in the Conn Center, directed by Dr. Andy Harnsberger.
The concert will feature pieces such as “Din” by Harnsberger, “Opening Remarks” by J.D. Smith, “Strange Loops” by Patrick Long, “Transmigration” by Phil Richardson, “Donner” by Dav id Skidmore, and “Mallet Quartet” by Steve Reich.
“The percussion ensemble looks forward to performing a variety of works that feature keyboard percussion as well as drums,” said Harnsberger. “The concert will last approximately one hour and will feature some standard works, ending with the famous “Mallet Quartet.”
Lee’s Percussion Ensemble explores repertoire from contemporary genres to world music and improvisation. It recognizes nationally known artists and clinicians from around the country who specialize in Afri can, Afro-Cuban, Arabic, and Brazilian percussion, as well as drum set, jazz vibes, marching percussion, marimba, and symphonic percussion.
Harnsberger, an associate professor of music at Lee, is also a performing artist and clinician for Grover Pro Percussion, Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drum Heads, and Sabian Cymbals. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music.
