Percussion Ensemble to Present Fall Performance
The Lee University Percussion Ensemble will perform on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center, under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger.
The concert will feature pieces such as “The Feeling of Coming Home” by Victor Labozzetta, “Nhiyr” by Michael Calamas, and “Trio per Uno” by Nebojsa Zivkovic, among others. Four of the pieces included have never been performed at Lee.
“The chamber percussion experience is essential to the percussionist’s training and allows students to experience a variety of repertoire,” said Harnsberger, an associate professor of music at Lee. “The Percussion Ensemble is an integral part of the percussion curriculum, as well.”
Lee’s Percussion Ensemble explores repertoire from contemporary genres to world music and improvisation. It recognizes nationally known artists and clinicians from around the country who specify in African, Afri-Cuban, Arabic, and Brazilian percussion, as well as drum set, jazz vibes, marching percussion, marimba, and symphonic percussion. Selections range from chamber works for three to four performers to works utilizing many instruments. The group presents fall and spring concerts annually.
Harnsberger, along with teaching at Lee, is a performing artist and clinician for Grover Pro Percussion, Malletech Instruments and Mallets, Remo Drumheads, and Sabian Cymbals. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in performance and literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, along with the Performer’s Certificate.
The concert is free and open to the public. It will also be available to view via livestream at https://leeu.live.
