Percussion Ensemble to Present Fall Concert

The Lee University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, will perform on Sunday, Nov. 2. The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in Pangle Hall on Lee’s campus.

The program will feature top compositions from the Lee University Percussion Composition Contest, including Sean Sweeden’s “The Clearing” and Lucas Garner’s “Lightbringers.”

Also on the program for the Percussion Ensemble are John Alfieri’s “Fanfare for Tambourines,” Richard Henson’s “Obscure Diversity,” and Michael Burritt’s “Shadow Chasers” and “Fandango 13.”

Guest artist Dr. Scott Herring, professor of percussion at the University of South Carolina, will perform the marimba solo in “Shadow Chasers.”

Herring frequently appears as a guest artist with university percussion ensembles across the U.S. and has presented concerts and clinics at PASIC 1996, 2002, 2006 and 2011. In addition, the University of South Carolina Percussion Ensemble was selected as a winner of the 2012 International Percussion Ensemble Competition. Herring is an endorser of Malletech Instruments and mallets, Zildjian Cymbals, Grover Pro Percussion products and Remo Drumheads.

Harnsberger currently serves as an assistant professor of music and percussion coordinator at Lee University and is active throughout the year as a freelance percussionist and recitalist. He is a performing artist and clinician for Pearl Drums and Adams Musical Instruments, Innovative Percussion, Inc., Evans Drum Heads, Sabian Cymbals, Ltd., and Grover Pro Percussion.
