Percussion Ensemble to Perform Sunday

Events, Music, News

Lee University’s Percussion Ensemble will host its spring concert on Sunday, April 16, at 3 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The concert, directed by Dr. Andy Harnsberger, will feature “Escape Velocity” by Dave Hall, “Threads” by Paul Lansky, and “Palmetto Moon” by Harnsberger. The program will also feature “Carbon Paper and Nitrogen Ink” by Adam Silverman, with guest artist Dr. Scott Herring on marimba.

Lee University’s Percussion Ensemble performs a variety of chamber music, which ranges from three or four performers to a larger ensemble requiring several instruments. The ensemble has several opportunities to perform with guest artists like Herring and represents both undergraduate and graduate percussion students.

Scott HerringHerring is currently a professor of percussion at the University of South Carolina (USC), where he directs the Percussion Ensemble and Palmetto Pans Steel Band. He frequently appears as a guest artist with university percussion ensembles across the United States and has presented concerts and clinics at PASIC 1996, 2002, 2006, and 2011, and 2012.

Herring also performs with USC saxophone professor, Clifford Leaman, as the RoseWind Duo, with whom he has been invited to perform at many professional conferences, including the 2007 NASA Region 7 Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, the 2007 South Carolina Music Teachers Association State Conference, and the 2007 and 2010 International Navy Band Saxophone Symposium.

This event is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will also be available at leeu.live. Pangle Hall is located on the corner of Church Street and Central Avenue.
