Percussion Ensemble and Chorale to Perform in Concert

News

Lee University will host a night of music featuring a joint chorale and percussion ensemble on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Church Street Annex.

Dr. William Green, dean of the School of Music, says “The combination of percussion and voice gives us the opportunity to highlight music of modern composers and to give our community a musical experience they will not soon forget.”

The concert will include separate selections for each ensemble as well as combined works written specifically for choir and percussion ensemble. The Percussion Ensemble will play works from composers including David Skidmore, Eric Whitacre, and Brian Nozny. Chorale will present music from modern composers John Rutter, Philip Lawson, Daniel Gawthrop, and Rene Clausen. The highlight of the evening will be selections for combined forces including “Epitaph for Moonlight” by R. Murray Schafer and “Tema” by Alfred Janson.

The Percussion Ensemble is one of the university’s most popular ensembles. Under the direction of Dr. Andy Harnsberger, artist in residence at Lee, this exceptional ensemble is experiencing tremendous growth and is a vibrant part of the musical life at the university.

The Lee University Chorale, conducted by Green, is the premier ensemble for standard choral music. Chorale has been featured in performances at Carnegie Hall and has traveled as a part of the “Celebration of American Music” in Italy. This past summer they participated in a choral residency at major cathedrals in Ireland including St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Waterford Cathedral.

The concert is free of charge and open to the public. For more information, please contact Lee’s School of Music at 423-614-8240.
